Remember good old fashioned 20 Mule Team Borax that your mom or grandmother used? Well, it is still one of the cheapest cleaning agents in the supermarket. I just came across a new list of things that it can be used for in addition to boosting your laundry detergent's power. Some of these I saw in Mary Hunt's "Cheapskate" column in the local paper: For cleaning glass: 2 tablespoons borax in 3 cups of warm water, put in a spray bottle and pretend it's Windex...except for the spotless, streak-free glass. Can't get rid of that ugly mildew in the bathtub? Try 1/2 cup borax in 2 cups of hot water. Rub into the black spots, let soak for several hours or overnight, and then rinse. Then to keep the mildew from coming back, spay with a mixture of bleachand water everyday. Ilive in buggy country,so myfavoriteuse is sprinkling borax around the outside of the house... it keeps ants and spiders OUT!
