First Direct Photograph of Forming Planet Ever

Posted on 3/1/2013 @ 3:05 PM in #Science by cmshikany51 0 comments

Another exciting day for astronomers everywhere as they believe we have finally captured a direct photograph of an alien planet in the early stages of forming in close proximity to a star. The European Southern Observatory's gigantic telescope in Chile was able to snap pictures of the huge alien planet in the process of forming. Right now it shows a faint blobimmersed in a thick dust and gas cloud. This gives astronomers reason to classify this as a baby gas giant, similar to Jupiter. The location of the forming planet is about 335 light years from earth hovering around the star HD 100546. Interestingly enough, this star is thought to already be host to another giant planet orbiting about 6 times farther than the Earth is from the Sun. The new planet is roughly 70 times that distance. For more Blogs by Charlie Shikany go tohttp://community.wooeb.com/cmshikany

Higgs Boson Could Spell Doom for Universe

Posted on 2/19/2013 @ 7:01 PM in #Science by cmshikany51 0 comments

The subatomic particle that was discovered last year, which may be the long-sought Higgs boson, might cause our universe to come to a sudden, premature end.The mass of the particle was uncovered at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, the world's largest particle accelerator. The mass is critical to a calculation that portends the future of space and time."This calculation tells you that many tens of billions of years from now there'll be a catastrophe," Joseph Lykken, a theoretical physicist at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Ill., said Monday (Feb. 18) at the American Association for the Advancement of Science."It may be the universe we live in is inherently unstable, and at some point billions of years from now it's all going to get wiped out," added Lykken, a collaborator on one of the LHC's experiments. For those of you who do not know, the Higgs boson particle is a manifestation of an energy field pervading the universe called the Higgs field, which is thought to explain why

Near-Earth Asteroids Threat and Benefit to Earth

Posted on 2/5/2013 @ 10:14 AM in #Science by cmshikany51 0 comments

It will take nearly 15 years to identify all of the near-Earth asteroids of significant size and 10 times longer to characterize their materials at the rate they are being detected. Many scientists agree, astronomers should focus on more sky surveys to both, prepare Earth for threats and also to exploit the asteroids' contents. One day, these asteroids could be mined for metals such as platinum and cobalt, according to Charlie Beeson, a doctoral candidate in astronomy at Harvard University.Beeson added that, increasing the breadth of existing sky surveys and using an orbiting mission, could speed up the cosmic hunt for these dangerous but beneficial asteroids.

Ounce of Cocaine Wins Fourth-Grader First Place in Science Fair

Posted on 2/1/2013 @ 12:13 PM in #Science by cmshikany51 0 comments

According to the Miami Herald, Detective Douglas Bartlet provided his daughter with three detector canines and apporximately $1,300 worth of cocaine for the annual Coral Gables Preparatory Academy's science fair. In the science experiment labeled "Drug Sniffing Dogs", the little Emma Bartlet helped viewers find out which of the three dogs would find the stash fastest using their sense of smell. “The student’s science project involved a very unusual set of circumstances, including having a parent who is a well-respected police detective with experience in training dogs that sniff for illegal substances," Schuster's statement read. "From our understanding, the parent was the only person involved in working directly with the dogs and the hidden substances, which took place at a police training facility.”

New Organic Lake Weed Control Product Innovates The Lake Weed Killer Industry

Posted on 12/11/2012 @ 9:13 AM in #Science by mmediapress 0 comments

An organic and chemical-free product by the Derma Safe Company, called the Lake Bottom Blanket will revolutionize the lake weed control product market and entirely change the way that consumers deal with the lake weeds plaguing their water front properties, lakes, and ponds. The Derma Safe Company has developed products for the Military, and recently fulfilled a major contract with the Lake Bottom Blanket for the prestigious Lake Tahoe, an upscale destination in Nevada, which has long been an exclusive getaway for the rich and famous. Lake weed control is a major issue for many, from lake front home owners to people that host ponds in their backyards. Most in the past have treated their water with chemicals that kill fish, plants, and types of algae that keep the water naturally balanced and healthy. Lake Bottom Blanket has a patented product that has been revolutionary to their niche industry. It is made of non-chemical materials that only control the lake weeds and do not have any sort of affect on

Did We Bring Sex to the Planet?

Posted on 5/12/2011 @ 6:10 PM in #Science by Bruce 0 comments

Did we bring sex to the planet?Sex, sounds almost universal huh? What if that some at some point a terrestrial race evolves to a junction, when it becomes a choice to bind their energy to another energetic being if they so choose, in our case we call this being the earth. As far as I know there isn't a being on this planet that gets the quality and quantity of sex that we get. I purpose that perhaps we brought sex to the planet. It maybe one of the qualities of our species that is coveted by others. What if only by our race being merged with the planet were other beings able to choose sex as part of their evolutionary paradigm. That is to say that beings trade and use the qualities of other beings as they evolve. This would also suggest that evolution occurs in a much bigger way than science currently has come to understand it.Could sex one of the magical aspects of the human energy? Have we learned to love our own reflection though dividing ourselves and finding ourselves again though sex? We do love to see

Big San Andreas Quakes More Frequent than Thought

Posted on 8/24/2010 @ 10:22 AM in #Science by ken1 0 comments

Las Vegas, NV -(CRWENEWSWIRE) Earthquakes strike along California’s San Andreas Fault more often than scientists previously thought, a new study suggests. Researchers at the University of California, Irvine and Arizona State charted temblors that occurred there stretching back 700 years. They found that large ruptures have occurred on the Carrizo Plain portion of the San Andreas Fault – about 100 miles (160 kilometers) northwest of Los Angeles – as often as every 45 to 144 years. But the last big quake was in 1857, more than 150 years ago. The researchers said that while it’s possible the fault is experiencing a natural lull, they think it’s more likely a major quake could happen soon. “If you’re waiting for somebody to tell you when we’re close to the next San Andreas earthquake, just look at the data,” said UCI seismologist and study leader Lisa Grant Ludwig. The team probed the history of the fault by collecting charcoal samples from carefully dug trenches in the Carrizo Plain. The charcoal forms

Death Valley Mystery: What Makes Rocks Wander

Posted on 8/23/2010 @ 5:05 PM in #Science by ken1 0 comments

Las Vegas, NV - (CRWENEWSWIRE) - A section of California's Death Valley is home to a strange phenomenon: Rocks that litter the landscape seem to move on their own, leaving long trails behind them in the cracked, bone-dry clay. These wanderings have baffled scientists for more than five decades. Nobody has ever caught a glimpse of the stones actually moving, yet move they must, because the rocks' locations, and the trails they leave behind them, change over time. A group of young scientists is taking a crack at solving the puzzle of this odd desert area known as Racetrack Playa. Most of the wandering stones are about the size of a one-liter soda bottle and far heavier, according to Brian Jackson, a NASA scientist who has been studying the area for more than four years. "You don't expect 20-pound (9-kilogram) rocks to go sliding across the ground very easily, but they seem to do that on occasion," Jackson said. Jackson said crackpot theories abound to explain the stones' travels across the playa (a

Twitter Hit by Major Bug, Users Lose Service as well as Friends and Followers

Posted on 5/25/2010 @ 12:29 AM in #Science by Brendan123456789101112 0 comments

Twitter has been hit by what is being described as a major bug that interrupted members’ service as well as erased all of their friends and followers. The bug allowed members to force other members to become a follow of their Tweets by simply typing in “accept” followed by their username. This bug became problematic as it spread across the social networking site.Twitter has said the hack has been repaired but as part of that repair the site was forced to temporarily reset accounts, leaving members with zero friends and followers. This was addressed in a blog posted by the site in which it stated “We identified and resolved a bug that permitted a user to 'force' other users to follow them. We're now working to rollback all abuse of the bug that took place.”Twitter believes they will be able to restore all information including friends and followers to the accounts affected by the hack.Click here for moreScience and Technology NewsAbout WooEBWooEB Community is a business, music andsocial networking community.
