Florida Health Insurance and your Family

Posted on 6/18/2009 @ 2:01 AM in #Medical by floridahealthinsurance 0 comments

It is easy to buy Florida health insurance when you are only shopping for one person, yourself. But what would you do if you had to buy a policy for more than one person? Buying a family Florida health insurance can be more time consuming and expensive. But this surely does not mean that you are going to totally be out of your element. You can still do a good job and end up with what you want. How many people are you buying for? This is what you need to think about before all else. Some people only need Florida health insurance for them and their spouse. Others have several children that they need to consider as well. Remember, the number of people you are buying insurance for will determine how much money you have to spend in the long run. As a general rule of thumb, the more people you insure the more money you will spend. You can use a Florida health insurance broker with experience in finding family policies if you are looking for help. Not everybody knows what they are doing. Hopefully you can locate a

Cover Florida Insurance Born of Market and Not Government

Posted on 1/9/2009 @ 11:28 AM in #Medical by floridahealthinsurance 0 comments

The Cover Florida Plans, Governor Charlie Crist's answer to Florida's problem of uninsured citizens, was born not from tax dollars, as none were involved in the plans, but instead through the individual health insurance marketplace. The idea was for several Florida insurance companies to offer innovative and affordable plans to attract the currently uninsured into acquiring a plan. Unfortunately, it looks like the plans they are offering are really no better than plans previously available, and may actually be inferior. Is this evidence that government involvement is needed to actually get Florida insured? Didn't residents of the state of Georgia demand a government run plan like this recently? With Georgia health insurance rates out of control in the Atlanta area, many have turned to going without health insurance. I know Floridians are happy with the dual option for inexpensive healthcare, but have you read the coverage limits? Can someone let our group know what the state of Georgia has that is similar to

War Within Health Insurance

Posted on 1/5/2009 @ 10:16 AM in #Medical by floridahealthinsurance 0 comments

The public is rarely aware of the battles which rage inside the field of healthcare notably between various specialty practices. With Dr.'s getting paid less for services from health insurance carriers, it is obvious something has to give. In the field of vision care for example, there are the Opthamologists and the Optometrists. While the former endures nearly a decade of training and is authorized to do more intensive treatments involving lazers and injections, the latter is schooled for roughly four years and currently is not. That is the at the heart of the debate, as Optometrists raise money and fight forlegislation which would allow them to practice procedures previously only in the realm of Opthamologists. Understandably, these folks who have paid a much more substantial price in time and training, are not happy with that idea. What are your thoughts? Should those with the lesser title and fewer hours of schooling be limited in their practice? Or should they be allowed to grow and expand their

Posted on 11/25/2008 @ 10:08 AM in #Medical by floridahealthinsurance 0 comments

Sponsored by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, the SHINE program serves the needs of Florida's elderly community. SHINE, or Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders, does more than offer counseling and assistance in getting seniors covered by health insurance. They also offer free services to improve the health and life quality of these Floridians. In Tampa, they will soon be on hand to offer Medicare advice, counseling on prescription drugs, and assistance with hearing aid devices and free hearing screening. How many seniors are aware of these services and take advantage of them? What can be done to make more elderly Floridians aware of this helpful and free assistance? How much does a Florida medicare policy cost?

Florida Group Health Insurance Woes

Posted on 11/19/2008 @ 9:24 AM in #Medical by floridahealthinsurance 2 comments

For small companies facing a difficult increase in insurance premiums for 2009, they face the decision of passing on the cost to their employees, or finding other ways to cut costs and spare their employees the burden. For one company in St. Petersburg, FL, the decision was made to absorb the extra cost and forego the purchase of new equipment. Florida Group Health Insurance, For the owner of E.CAB, his perspective was that times are tough enough as it is with the struggling economy, and the thought of asking his employees to pay more for their insurance just didn't seem right. How many small employers will hold this benevolent attitude, and how many will simply pass the buck?

Jacksonville Florida Health Insurance Programs

Jacksonville, Florida -- FL Senator Mel Martiniz is skeptical that health care for children, and health care in general, will be better now that Obama has won the election. According to correspondence from Progress Florida, in a Meet the Press, Sen Martiniz called the issue of children's health care "divisive" and suggested that Congress cannot deal with the state of the crisis as it stands. This does not bode well, what are your thoughts?

A five year contract with ACS, or Affiliated Computer Services, promises to save Florida money through finding potential savings in its Medicaid program. The company will use its technology to identify alternative sources of insurance before Medicaid pays claims. It will look at private insurance, Medicare, and other sources. The Dallas based company ranks on the top 100 list of largest federal government contractors. Do you think it will succeed in saving Florida money? Florida insurance dollars are on the rise....We must find a way to slow down the inflation!

Offered at local clinics, the vaccines are affordable at roughly $30 a peice, and may be covered at now charge by Medicare Part B and other insurance providers. What other types of vaccines do you think should be available for seniors and how can they be encouraged and made aware of these potentially life saving preventions?

New Florida Health Insurance Clinic to Meet Desperate Need

Posted on 11/6/2008 @ 11:41 AM in #Medical by floridahealthinsurance 0 comments

A new clinic will be opening that will offer Orlando Health Insurance in Florida to serve the thus far unmet needs of the uninsured and underinsured indigents in the area. The Polk County Commission voted unanimously to open the clinic in Winter Haven and provide services on a sliding scale based on income and need. The clinic will help those who are inelegible for programs such as Medicaid and Medicare and who lack the ability to acquire other coverage. The county decided that the need was great enough to warrant the cost, and that it will also help ease the burden on local emergency rooms. Will the health benefits of the center outweigh the overal cost, which will be substantial?

Lawmakers to Protect Sufferers of Autism

Posted on 10/20/2008 @ 11:41 AM in #Medical by floridahealthinsurance 0 comments

The cost of caring for an autistic child is unfortunately more than just an emotional one. Depending on what state you live in, your out of pocket expenses could be as much as $1000 a week for intensive behavioral therapy which is often crucial for the development and long term functionality of these children. Lawmakers are more often making strides to protect parents against insurance companies which would not provide more assistance in these cases. Laws in several states, including Florida, have been made to insure that companies provide coverage for this behavioral therapy, which can cost up to $50,000 a year for a child. Some argue that these laws are increasing costs for everyone, but lawmakers are finding it hard to vote against parents whose child is a victim of this disease. What do you think? Should autism be covered under health insurance by law, or is the cost too steep for everyone?

The Daunting Task of Finding Individual Health Insurance

Posted on 10/15/2008 @ 2:44 PM in #Medical by floridahealthinsurance 3 comments

In the currently troubled economy, many people are finding themselves not only without a job, but also without health insurance. The individual insurance marketplace can be a frightening and overwhelming place, with discrimination against age, weight, and preexisting conditions. Unless you are among the companies' favored group of those under 30 with no health problems, chances are you will face higher premiums and policy exclusions. Some states, however, have provisions in place to protect those people with "uninsurable" conditions such as diabetes. Some states, like New York and Massachusetts, prohibit insurance companies from denying coverage to people with prexisting conditions. In Florida, the health department has programs for treating people with AIDs and HIV. What should be the policy for protecting people with conditions such as these? Should all states offer provisions to help people in these situations?

Florida Opposes Law Against Domestic Partner Benefits

Posted on 10/13/2008 @ 2:43 PM in #Medical by floridahealthinsurance 0 comments

The Cities of West Palm Beach and Lake Worth voted strongly in opposition of the "Florida Marriage Protection Amendment" which is aimed at defining marriage as a union of "man and woman" and would affect health insurance benefits of domestic partners. Despite the original intent of the the amendment, it would also affect unmarried seniors who share health benefits and pensions. These Florida Insurance cities decided to vote in protection of providing health benefits to adults who form partnerships without the benefit or decision of marriage as well as the dependents of these partnerships. Do you think this was the rightdecision for Florida?

Health Insurance Coalition on the Attack

Posted on 10/9/2008 @ 10:09 AM in #Medical by floridahealthinsurance 2 comments

A coalition of groups including many liberal, labor, women's and latino groups, got together recently to attack Obama's proposed healthinsurance plan. They are up in arms about the possible loss of employer provided coverage and fearful that McCain's plan will leave them to fight for their own coverage with the disadvantage of prexisting conditions. What particularly uniqueissues do these groups have which would leave them more fearful of McCain's plan than your average American?

A Breakdown of the Candidates Proposals

Posted on 10/8/2008 @ 10:32 AM in #Medical by floridahealthinsurance 0 comments

While sifting through the presidential candidates' proposals to reform health care can be cumbersome, it can be broken down into a simpler form. Basically, Obama will require insurance companies to issue policies and renew them for everyone, otherwise known as Guarantee Issue. This would allow people who have pre-existing conditions to get and keep coverage regardless of the cost of their care. This is beneficial for those who are sick. The disadvantage is that people who are young and healthy will have to pay higher premiums to offset the cost of caring for those who require lots of care. Obama proposes to offset this cost by making premiums dependent on income. Unfortunately, if you are wealthy and healthy, you will be paying much health insurance higher premiums to care for those who are sick and in poverty. McCain on the other hand is offering a tax credit to allow everyone to purchase their own insurance. Those who are already sick will have access to high risk pools which are Guarantee Issue. While more

Clinton seems to have changed his tune from previous questions of Barack's lack of experience, to candid support of his wife's former rival. His recentspeechabout Orlando Florida Health Insurance focused onhow thehealthcareeconomy and the many financial woes facing the country right now, and on how Obama is the man to fix it. He also agrees withhis fellowDemocrat'sviews on how to reformthe healthcare system. Do you agree with Clinton's view on Obama's plansfor turning the country around? He seemed as though he did another flip flop. Similar to that of last Democratic hopeful John Kerry.

A Newly Smoke Free Hospital in Florida?

Posted on 9/29/2008 @ 10:40 AM in #Medical by floridahealthinsurance 0 comments

In Orlando, FL, the Osceola Regional Hospital joins two nearby hospital chains in declaring the hospital grounds a tobacco free zone. The two hospital chains enacted this policy earlier in the year. Does this seem a little late in the making? With Florida restaraunts having banned smoking for some time now, it seems that hospitals should have been the first on the anti-tobacco bandwagon. What do you think? Should employees and hospital patrons be allowed to smoke on hospital grounds? Is this a violation of civil rights, or a valid act to protect the health and well being of its patients? What about health insurance? Will it put a damper on your rates?
