Kundalini Yoga is one of the spiritual types of yoga that goes beyond the physical performance of asanas. With its emphasis on breathing, meditation and chanting - Kundalini Yoga creates a conscious connection with the Divine by removing all the obstacles and fluctuations of the mind. It raises the energy of our inner self to a higher frequency and opens our awareness to realize the ultimate peace. Kundalini lies at the base of the spine and is represented as a coiled serpent. As the Kundalini energy is awakened, it moves up from the base of the spine from Muladhara Chakra to the Sahasrara Chakra located at the top of the head.
The untapped energy or Prana within a human being can be awoken by awakening each of the seven chakras (Muladhara Chakra, Svadhishthana Chakra, Manipuraka Chakra, Anahata Chakra, Visuddha Chakra, Ajna Chakra and Sahasrara Chakra) through postures, movement, specialized breathing, hand gestures, body locks, chanting and sound. Full enlightenment of an individual is attained when the

“Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.” – Carl Jung
In the literal sense, yoga refers to a system of exercises that help to control the mind, body and the soul of an individual. Practicing yoga helps a mortal being to reach a perfect state of spiritual calmness through the path of action, knowledge and devotion. The term Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word 'Yuj' which means to unite. Yoga aims to unite the body with the mind and the mind with the soul. Yoga paves the way for an individual to attain a joyous and blissful life. Mind is the central point of yoga practice and thus yoga aims to control the mind and draw it away from attachments or desires.
According to the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, practicing yoga (sadhana) is an art that connects the practitioner to the supreme or the ultimate creator. Practice (abhyasa) of Vairagya (non-grasping) and Meditation (dhyana) are keys to Yoga. With the practice of yoga,

There are many styles and patterns of yoga and each pattern is oriented towards exploration and development of mind, body and soul. While all of us have different pain thresholds, most of our patients tell us that they experienced little or no pain. This is a great surprise to them. One man who came to us on a very high dose of methadone told me that he was amazed that he was not experiencing any real pain. He was uncomfortable sometimes and stayed in his room but this was not what he expected. In fact, he told us that he chose Novus not because he believed that his withdrawal would be pain-free, but because he felt it was a good place to be sick and that he would receive the appropriate medical care. You can read his success story and others here:

Meditation is an important part of Yoga practices. Meditation or Dhyana is the seventh limb of the Patanjali Yoga Sutra. Meditation helps an individual reach a state of tranquility and the practitioner is rejuvenated with ultimate serenity. Through meditation, one can experience a calm and relaxed state of mind. Highest joy is realized as the practitioner experience the oneness with their own center of consciousness, the Atma.
Kundalini Yoga is a powerful yogaform that focuses on awakening of the Kundalini, the energy of consciousness. Kundalini energy is visualized as a snake coiled up in the first chakra found at the base of the spine (Muladhara chakra). Kundalini energy is one's potential spiritual energy. As an individual starts Kundalini Yoga, the Kundalini energy rises up the Nadi (Kundalini channels) helping the mortal to surpass the external material pleasure and help him/her achieve a consciousness that brings freedom from illusion (Maya).

One is that more people are likely to die in alcohol-related traffic crashes onNew Years Evethan on any other day of the year."Many people would be better off to bring in theNew Yearwithout the drink and with a resolution to make 2008 alcohol free. If more knew the facts about alcohol they might opt to watch Dick Clark in the Big Apple, rent a movie or make resolutions for theNew Yearthat are sensible and not forgotten in the morning because of a bad hangover."So we are telling everyone to have a good time this year, but remember a few facts that can protect them and their friends before the party begins."Alcohol can

One of our saddest moments at Novus is when we are contacted by a woman who is addicted to narcotics like methadone or OxyContin and is pregnant. It is sad for us because our facility cannot provide the type of medical care that is needed to safely detox a pregnant woman. Few facilities do. However, it is even more distressing because we know that the mother is going to have a more dangerous pregnancy and her fetus will be in real danger of not being a normal baby. If the mother doesn't terminate the pregnancy and carries the baby to term, the baby has no better than a 50-50 chance of not experiencing the same incredible withdrawal pain suffered by any other person dependent on or addicted to narcotics or other drugs who is forced to suddenly stop taking them. Does anyone think that the drug companies and their "paid" doctors who promote the use of methadone, rather than treatment that would make young women drug free, don't know that many of these women are going to become pregnant? Even though it is almost
