Heavy fighting in Syrian capital residents

Posted on 3/19/2012 @ 9:53 AM in #Green by calistsea 0 comments

Rebels fought security forces in Damascus on Monday, in the most violent gunbattles the Syrian capital has seen since the start of the year-long uprising against President Bashar al-Assad, opposition activists said. The heavy fighting shattered the night calm in the upscale al-Mezze district and came just two days after a double car bombing had killed at least 27 people in the heart of the city. "These clashes were the most violent and the closest to the security force headquarters in Damascus since the outbreak of the Syrian revolution," said Rami Abdulrahman, who runs the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. He said 18 government troops were wounded in the fighting, which broke out just after midnight in the west of the capital, pitching army defectors against pro-Assad forces. Witnesses said the sound of heavy machinegun fire and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) had echoed through al-Mezze for two or three hours. "There is fighting near Hamada supermarket and the sound of

Everyone loves a trend, and the invisible force that draws others to follow a trend is amazing and sometimes unfortunate. In fact, there seems seldom that a lot of thought goes into any trend. They seem to evolve out of needs that can be rational or irrational. So, while we’ve all seen trends come and trends go, we know that the merits of a trend may be highly suspect. Many have voiced their opinion that Green is a trend, and that this too will pass! Well, what will pass is the trendy forms of Green that were more pretense than profound. Businesses now come in numerous shades of Green, and there are many who are adopting the Green mantra to gain popular acceptance. Trend-driven Green is ephemeral and tentative thinking only to participate in the popularity of the moment though not convinced that it will last. It is easy to fake being Green, or to support the cause with overt enthusiasm but covert disdain. There is a shade of Green for everyone, and most of them are not as true as they should

Mike Zaman Presents: Is our wheather data useless

Posted on 2/16/2010 @ 10:23 PM in #Green by mikezaman 0 comments

By Mike Zaman With growing evidence that many of the US wheather stations are producing unreliable data because of their placement, in some cases next to artificial heat. A scientific analysis suggests that these stations are underestimating warming. Based upon these findings, the US temperature record appears to be unreliable. And since the US record is thought to be ‘the best in the world,’ it follows that the global database is likely similarly unreliable. So what does this mean to us? Probably nothing when it’s hot its hot and what is the difference of a degree more or less?
