Five people were killed and nine injured after two boats collided in Sydney Harbor on Thursday. The crash happened around 2:40 a.m. Five people were dead at the scene and nine people were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Those who were killed or injured were believed to be aboard the smaller boat. Authorities are investigating the incident. Kentucky Derby Odds, Post Positions Announced

The pole positions for the Kentucky Derby 134 were selected Wednesday. The 2008 Kentucky Derby will take place Saturday at 5pm at Churchill Downs in Louisville. The odds for the Derby has also been announced. Track linemaker Mike Battaglia pegged Big Brown as the 3-1 odds favorite, followed by Colonel John at 4-1 odds and Pyrothe third choice at 6-1 odds. Big Brown, the odds-on favorite, has been placed at Post 20. No horse has ever won the Derby from as far outside as Post 20. The Kentucky Derby is the first of horse racing's famed Triple Crown, followed by the Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes. The Preakness Stakes will take place on May 17 at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland, while the Belmont Stakes will be on June 7 at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. The Kentucky Derby horse race caps the two-week Kentucky Derby Festival, which includes the Great Balloon Race, the Great Steamboat Race, the Pegasus Parade, the Derby Marathon and mini-Marathon. Darryl Strawberry is writing a memoir of his achievements as a baseball superstar, a career that was often clouded by brushes with the law and his struggles with substance abuse and cancer. “Straw” will be published in 2009. The 46-year Strawberry was an eight-time All-Star who play in the World Series with both the New York Mets and New York Yankees. He had a career 335 home runs in 17 seasons. “Straw” will give details of the battles Strawberry faced in his battle with colon cancer and spotlight both his religious awakening and his marriage to the love of his life. Avery Johnson Fired as Dallas Mavericks Head Coach

Avery Johnson was fired as the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, just one day after the Mavs were eliminated from the playoffs. This is the second consecutive year that the Mavericks have exited the playoffs in the first round. In 2007, the Mavericks, who had the best record in the NBA, were knocked out by underdog Golden State Warriors. Johnson leaves with an exception regular-season record, going 194-70. Among coaches with a minimum of 250 games, Johnson has the highest regular-season winning percentage in NBA history. However, Johnson has a disappointing 23-24 record in the playoffs, going 3-12 in the playoffs since blowing a 2-0 lead in the 2006 NBA Finals. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban wanted to make a change quickly, so the team could begin interviewing replacements and Johnson could find another job. Woman Arrested After Jailbreak More Than 32 Years Ago

A woman who escaped from a Michigan prison in 1976 is back behind bars Wednesday after spending 32 years on the run. Authorities say they received a tip that Marie Walsh, a suburban San Diego mom of three, was actually 53-year old Susan LeFevre. LeFevre was convicted in 1975 on drug charges and sentenced to between 10 and 20 years. She walked out of a Detroit prison after serving only a year. US Marshals say LeFevre fled to California, married and had been raising three children when they finally caught up with her. Her family reportedly knew nothing of her prior identity. LeFevre awaits extradition to Michigan, where she is expected to serve the remainder of her sentence. She has said she will plead for leniency, adding that she has been paying off her debt to society for 30 years. Angela Moyer is yet another woman who is rumored to have had an affair with Roger Clemens, according to reports Wednesday. According to The Daily News, Moyer was amongst a bevy of attractive women that Clemens hung out with during his career.
