RXi Pharmaceuticals, a leader in the next generation of RNA targeting technology, announced that it has been added to the Russell Microcap Index as part of Russell Investments’ annual reconstitution of its family of U.S. indexes. U.S. Military to Seek Death Penalty Against Man Accused in USS Cole Attack

The U.S. military will reportedly seek the death penalty against one of the individuals believed responsible for the deadly bombing of the USS Cole in 2000. Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri is expected to become the first person charged in the United States for the attack that killed 17 U.S. sailors. Two suicide bombers rammed the side of the destroyer while it was refueling in Aden, Yemen on October 12, 2000. The explosion blew a massive hole in the Cole’s port side and left 47 sailors injured Charges leveled against al-Nashiri include terrorism, murder and attempted murder; he is currently being held by the U.S. military at Guantanamo Bay. UGA VI, University of Georgia Mascot, Interred at Sanford Stadium

UGA VI, the University of Georgia mascot, was buried at Sanford Stadium on Monday three days after the English bulldog past away. UGA VI, the winningest mascot in Georgia history, was just one month shy of his 10th birthday when he died Friday night due to heart failure. The prvate burial service was officiated by Rev. Claude McBride, a former chaplain for UGA’s football team, and attended by a few dozen individuals including university president Michael Adams and owner Sonny Seiler, whose family has provided each UGA mascot since 1956. On Monday the body of UGA VI, registered as UGA V’s Whatchagot Loran, along with several members of the Seiler family were flown to Athens from Savannah for the service. He was interred in a marble vault where his five predecessors now lay. The 2008 Top 50 NFL Players List, the annual list compiled by CBS Sportsline writer Pete Prisco, was released on Monday. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady topped the list after leading the Patriots to an 18-0 record heading into the Super Bowl. Brady broke Peyton Manning's single-season record for touchdown passes with 50 in 2007. Brady also threw for a league-leading 4,806 yards and topped the NFL in completion percentage (68.9) and passer rating (117.2). Floyd Landis Doping Ban Upheld, Barred From 2008 Tour de France

Floyd Landis will not participate in the 2008 Tour de France after a court upheld the decision to ban him Monday due to doping. A three-person panel at the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld a previous panel's decision, ruling his positive doping test during the Tour two years ago was valid. Landis must pay a fine of $100,000 toward the legal fees of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). Landishas 30 days to appeal to the Swiss Federal Court. The decision comes just six days before the start of the 2008 Tour de France. Landis won the 2006 edition after a comeback in Stage 17,a leg of the race that turned out to be fueled by synthetic testosterone. The ruling upholds Landis' two-year ban from cycling, which is due to end Jan. 29, 2009. Landis said that the USADA and the World Doping Agency have procedures that are unfair and rigged against athletes who often don't have the resources to fund their defense. Billionaire businessman Jeffery Epstein pleaded guilty to felony charges of solicitation of prostitution and solicitation of prostitution from a minor. The 55-year-old New York financier received 18 months in prison and a year of house arrest as part of a plea deal. Epstein was also labeled a sex offender and is forbidden to have any unsupervised contact with minors. Epstein was accused of paying several girls under the age of 18 to give him naked massages. Jeffrey Epstein, the billionaire investor, wasarrested Mondayafter pleading guilty tohis role in a teen sex scandal. Epstein, 55, plead guilty to solicitation and an additional charge of procuring a person under the age of 18 for prostitution. Epstein still faces civil lawsuits that accuse him of sexually assaulting high school students as young as 15 years old. Epstein, the former friend of President Bill Clinton, is now at a Palm Beach County jail where he will remain for the next 18 months. After his jail time, Epstein will be placed under house arrest for one year and will have a lifelong obligation to register as a sex offender. The autopsy report of Eve Carson, the student body president at the University of North Carolina, was released on Monday and indicated the 22-year-old had been shot several times after she was abducted from her apartment on the night of March 4. According to court documents Carson was forced from her apartment by two men, Demario James Atwater, 22, and Lawrence Alvin Lovette, 17, taken to an ATM where money from her account was withdrawn, and then shot several times by both men in the early hours of March 5. “Wanted” opened this weekend and came in second behind “Wall-E,” a robot. I wish they would have let me in on the actors in “Wanted” being more like robots rather than humans. The characters had the ability to live through anything, up until writers Michael Bradt and Derek Haas along with Director Timur Bekmambetov felt their time on the screen was up and they needed to be killed. Otherwise they could take bullets, knife wounds and beatings and then submerge themselves into a magic tub and be healed like new. The action in the movie has Fox, played by Angelina Jolie, looking more like Keanu Reeves in The Matrix series.
