Despite coming to a power-sharing agreement two weeks ago Zimbabwe’s opposition Movement for Democratic Change party and ruling ZANU-PF party remains deadlocked over the distribution of key ministries within the government. According to the MDC, Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has demanded he maintain control of the appointments for several ministries including finance, home affairs, information and justice. Under the power-sharing deal signed two weeks ago MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai was appointed prime minister while Mugabe remained president. While the outline of the deal was agreed upon the details have proven to be more difficult. Mugabe has denied reports of problems and insisted a unity government would be formed by the end of the week. For that to happen there will have to be an agreement on how to divide the cabinet posts. At last 168 people were crushed to death and several more were left seriously injured on Tuesday after a wall near a Hindu temple in India collapsed sending thousands of worshippers running. The stampede occurred in the northwestern state of Rajasthan as worshippers were preparing to celebrate the Hindu festival of Navaratra. German Government to Assist in Bailout of Hypo Real Estate Holding AG

In an effort to save the second biggest real-estate lender from collapse, the German government along with a group of private banks has agreed to pump $50 billion into Hypo Real Estate Holding AG following the bank’s massive losses tied to its Dublin-based Depfa Bank Plc’s difficulty in securing short-term funding. As part of the deal, Hypo Real Estate Holding AG will receive the $50 billion in two allotments the first being $14 billion euros and the second $21 billion euros. Private banks have agreed to pay 60 percent of the first installment while the German government has agreed to fund the entire second payment. The bailout comes as the global markets have seen a shoring up of short-term financing, leaving many financial institutions vulnerable to collapse. South Africa’s ANC Denies Possibility of Split in Party

South Africa’s ruling African National Congress has dismissed speculation that the party could split due to the recent controversy surrounding the resignation of former President Thabo Mbeki and the ascension of new leader Jacob Zuma. Zuma had defeated Mbeki for the ANC leadership last December and is widely expected to win the presidential election early next year but he has been subjected to numerous charges of corruption and prosecutors have attempted to take him to trial. A judge recently ordered Zuma would not face trial due to interference in the case, hinting that Mbeki may have had something to do with the charges. Mbeki has denied any involvement but announced he would step down as president in the interest of the ANC. Lane Kiffin was finally fired as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders of Tuesday after weeks of speculation about his status with the team. Raiders owner Al Davis made statements during week 3 that he was going to fire Kiffin, but waited on Tuesday to make the decision official. Tom Cable, the team's offensive line coach, has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Kiffin, a source said. Cable was among three coaches interviewed by Davis on Monday night; the others were offensive coordinator Greg Knapp and special consultant Paul Hackett. The Pittsburgh Steelers forged a comeback to defeat the Baltimore Ravens 23-20 in overtime on Monday Night Football. The Steelers were down by 10 points in the third quarter, but they scored two touchdowns in 15 seconds. Jeff Reed thenkicked a field goal in the fourth to give them a 20-13 lead. Ravens running back Le'Ron McClain scored on a two-yard run to tie the game 20-20 with four minutes left in the fourth quarter. The game then went into overtime in which Reed kicked a 46-yard field goal to win the game for the Steelers at home. Janet Jackson was hospitalized for an unknown illness while on her Rock Witchu Tour stop in Montreal on Monday night. Jackson, 44, "got suddenly ill during the sound check" in Montreal and had to be rushed to the hospital, according to her PR rep. The concert at Montreal's Bell Centre had to be cancelled. Jackson is being monitored at the hospital and hopes to reschedule the show. No further information was given about Jackson's condition, according to the statement by W&W Public Relations. Jay-Zannounced that the release date for hisupcoming album Blueprint 3 will be December 2, according to reports this week.
