U.S. President Barack Obama has warned that the situation in Haiti remains “dire” and the country is still in desperate need of humanitarian aid as well as assistance in rebuilding a devastated Port-au-Prince.It has been almost two months since a 7.0-magnitude earthquake destroyed most of the capital, collapsing buildings and homes while leaving more than 220,000 dead. With much of the city still in ruins the homeless population remains at nearly half a million people and they are the ones Obama said needed the most help.Haiti will soon have to endure the rain season and with the homeless population so high a second tragedy could be just around the corner. Obama addressed this prospect saying, “The challenge now is to prevent a second disaster, and that is why at this very moment, thousands of Americans, both civilian and military, remain on the scene at the invitation of the Haitian government.”Obama was meeting with Haitian President Rene Preval in Washington on Wednesday when he made his comments.Click

According to the Sri Lankan government China is supplying more than half of all construction and development loans it is receiving. With Sri Lanka moving toward a more stable political and economic environment there has been greater interest from neighboring countries who want to invest in the island.
In his first visit to Moscow since winning the presidency of the Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych met with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and the two leaders pledged to end tensions between their countries and build a stronger relationship.Yanukovych represents a break from the Ukraine’s previous Pro-Western government, a government that was often at odds with Russia on a number of policies.During Yanukovych’s campaign he vowed to strengthen ties with Russia while keeping a solid relationship with the West. His victory over Yulia Tymoshenko in February was a clear sign that the Ukrainian people wanted the same.On Friday Yanukovych made his intentions known saying his plan was to open a “new page” with Russia. That feeling was echoed by Medvedev who said he hoped the “black streak” in their relationship was over. That “black streak” is often tied to gas supplies and it is the hope of the Ukrainian people that Yanukovych can broker lower prices for gas.###Click here for moreWorld NewsAbout WooEBWooEB Community is a
