Broadway paid tribute Thursday night to actress Natasha Richardson, who died Wednesday after sustaining head injuries in a skiing accident. The late actress’s husband Liam Neeson, her mother Vanessa Redgrave and sister Joely Richardson attended the dimming of lights on Broadway in honor of Richardson.
The family was comforted by actress Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband Matthew Broderick as well as actor Ron Rifkin.
Richardson, 45, died from internal bleeding caused by a blunt impact to the head. She fell Monday during a ski lesson in Canada and was able to walk back to her room. About an hour later, Richardson complained of a headache and was taken to a nearby hospital.
On Tuesday, Richardson was flown to Lenox Hills Hospital in NYC, where she died after being taken off life support.
The actress’s family has requested that donations be made in her name to the amfAR foundation for AIDS research, a charity that Richardson supported after her father Tony Richardson died of the disease.
