An official says a Coast Guard helicopter crashed about 5 miles south of Hawaii around 8 p.m. leaving 3 crewmembers dead and 1 missing. The crew was conduction a search and rescue drill with a 47 foot motor lifeboat. It is unclear exactly what caused the helicopter to crash. Gullett was taking part in a time trial for the 500cc Streamliner class when the crash occurred and investigators have yet to determine what caused the 47-year-old to lose control. Just over a week ago Gullett added three more World Land Speed Records to his credit and had a pair of runs prior to the crash that qualified for records in the 500cc class that are expected to be ratified.
