If you have tattoos that are keeping you
from getting work, you are not alone. Many companies, from big law
firms all the way down to McDonald's, have some type of "no tattoo
policy," but did you ever think a supermodel could be denied a job
because of a tattoo?
That's exactly what's happening to Model Niki Taylor. She's got
several tattoos but the one she says is often the "deal breaker" is a
large cover-up tattoo on her right forearm. Niki says she is removing
the "hodgepodge of cover-ups" from her right arm because "It is stopping
me from getting some work, I think." Niki says that people always
immediately notice the tattoo. She says it doesn't matter how many
tattoos someone has or how acceptable tattoos are, this particular
tattoo always gets a lot of attention. In addition to this tattoo, Niki
is also removing a tattoo from her left wrist and two from her back.
Niki describes the laser tattoo removal process as very painful. She
compares it to childbirth. Admittedly, laser tattoo removal is not
comfortable, however, the amount of pain a person experiences is dependent on several factors. While one's own pain threshold plays a
huge role in how tolerable laser tattoo removal is, other factors
include the color of the ink and the location of the tattoo. Most
patients we have talked to respond with, "that wasn't as painful as I
thought it would be." It is often described as a popping/snapping
sensation. Imagine a rubber band on your wrist, and you snap/pop that
rubber band. That should be the extent of the pain, more or less
depending on personal pain threshold or the location of the body that is
being treated. If the pain is unbearable, some other issue is most
likely the culprit. If the wrong laser is being used or if the laser is
incorrectly calibrated, pain can be much more severe. This may be the
case with the laser being used for Niki's treatments.
Like Niki, if you have tattoos that are hindering your job
opportunities, laser tattoo removal is a very effective option. If you
don't already have tattoos that are interfering with your job search, by
all means make sure a lot of though goes into the placement of a tattoo
before actually getting inked. Right or wrong, being denied a job
based on your tattoo rather than your qualifications, or lack there of,
is not something anyone wants to experience.
